Ryan Walters wins Republican primary for Oklahoma State Superintendent

Republican voters made Gov. Kevin Stitt’s secretary of education Ryan Walters their nominee for state superintendent on Tuesday.

Kevin Stitt congratulated Walters and introduced him at a Tuesday night watch party in Oklahoma City’s Bricktown.

Walters will face former Oklahoma Teacher of the Year Jena Nelson in the November 8 general election.

Ryan Walters defeated April Grace with about 53% of the vote.

This is also a decisive victory for school choice.

Stitt appointed Walters to the secretary of education position in September 2020.

Walters and Grace had finished first and second atop a four-candidate field in the June 28 GOP primary.

Grace issued a statement to late Tuesday, saying: "We are proud of the race we ran. We ran a clean campaign.
